Lessons from Bed Room

When I woke up this morning from bed & asked myself;

What is life all about?
What are some of the secrets of success in life?

The answers were right there in your room;

  • The Fan said – Be cool.
  • The Roof said – Aim high.
  • The Window said – See the world.
  • The Clock said – Every minute is precious.
  • The Mirror said – Reflect before you act.
  • The Calendar said – Be up to date.
  • The Door said – Push hard for your goals.
  • The Carpet said – Kneel down and pray.

Carry a Heart that never Hates. Carry a Smile that never Fades. Carry a Touch that never Hurts.

Being AnandNataraj

I’ve blogged about this often and I think I’ll be blogging about this topic in future too…. For those who keep reading about this often; please excuse me because I use my blog as a tool for expression…

It all started when I uploaded a bunch of pictures while consuming toddy…. Immediately I started getting advice from my friends to delete it or to make it visible only to certain friends…. Though they advised me as a well wisher…. I didn’t want to follow what they said…

So what are the effects of posting such a picture?

  • My image as a entrepreneur gets a beating…
  • My marriage could get affected because of this…

But if I start thinking about what people will think of me…. I’ll start leading a false life & over a point I might loose my Identity…. For me I want to me as open as possible…. Though I paid heavy prices for this openness I don’t want to change because of some bad experiences….

Though there might be certain hiccups initially once I become big acceptance will get bigger…. Some great personalities are;

  • Vijay Mallaya
  • Richard Branson

These people have shown me path for leading a life as we like and never bother about society or succumb to pressure it gives….

So what is Being AnandNataraj?

  • Someone who doesn’t bother about society and lives life for himself is Being AnandNataraj….
  • Someone who give damn for Privacy is Being AnandNataraj
  • Someone who has the guts & fire on the a$$ is Being AnandNataraj….
  • Someone who thinks RISK & failure is a part of life is Being AnandNataraj….
  • Someone who is a Decision maker even it is right or wrong is Being AnandNataraj….
  • Someone who agrees his failures / mistakes / embarrassments is Being AnandNataraj….

Though it is hard for common people to accept me and my acts…. I’m happy Being AnandNataraj thought my actions leads to criticism, embarrassment etc.

KBC & SMS!!! Similarly weigh Airtel’s Forced activation of your mobiles for Worldcup Cricket Alerts

A little behind-the-scene info won’t  hurt……assuming it’s correct!

You all know it’s a good business. But have you ever pondered… How Good??

Any guesses?? Let’s see…  Airtel is charging Rs. 6 per SMS sent for this contest.

Assuming there are only 100 entries from say 10 cities of some 20 districts and 20 states…

6(Rs/SMS) x 100(entries) x 10(cities) x 20(districts) x 20(states) = 6 x 100 x 10 x 20 x 20 = Rs.24,00,000  (2.4 million) in 20 minutes. (People trying for the 2 lakhs cash prize)  Imagine what if 1000 entries try out from 100 cities????

The figure simply grows by 2 more zeroes and yields a whopping 24 Crores!!!!

And it does not stop there…  In practice it could be another multiple of 100 or worst case a multiple of 1000 on an average.  In that case it is 24 x 100 crores earnings in just 20 minutes on every episode!!!

And the prize money : A mere 2 crore (and from whose pocket?)  Smart Business By Siddharth Basu!  And the best part of this calculation is just the SMS earning!!  What about the Ad money???

A rough annual profit calculation goes like this:  2400 x 5 x 4) (episode/month) x 12 = 5,76,000 crores.  Let even 50% get dissolved in taxes and other payments, still you will be left with (which includes even the meagre 480 crores of prize money i.e.if every episode bags 2 crore prize)!

2,88,000  crores profit (only from SMS)

Mistake made me feel great!!!

Yesterday while driving to office I got a call from the person who sold Hotel Accord Metropolitan membership to me… She wished me Happy Birthday & said one more celebrity was celebrating his birthday today and asked did I know who he is???

  • I said it was Shahid Kapoor & she said that was a news for her and she said it was someone else…
  • Then I said it was Premji Ameran & again she said it was a news to her and she said the person was different…

Since I ran out of options she said it was Gautham Vasudev Menon’s birthday too… That made me think more special as he is one of my favorite directors… She said he is also a privileged member like me & she said she has called me after wishing him… I was doubly thrilled to be a a part of a club which had such celebrities & my favorite director as a member…

Then she said there was a complementary cake offered as a gift from the Hotel… Since I was busy treating my folks I asked my office admin to collect the cake form the hotel… The packing was nice and I thought I must share this cake with my parents & sister as I didn’t offer them for my birthday…

When I reached home & opened the box I was in for a shock… I got the cake which was supposedly prepared for Gautam Vasudev Menon :)… Though the cake neither had my name nor the flavor I requested I didn’t get angry… Gautam must have got my cake and would have wondered who Anand Nataraj was?? I just realized that I must have registered my name as AnandNataraj.Com so that he could have at-least hit my blog ;)… Not sure how he reacted or felt about the mix up… I was happy & the cake was really delicious… Gautam was good even in selecting the flavors he choose :)…

This is what i got :)…

Yet another Birthday to Remember!!!!

As usual it was yet another Birthday to remember and thanks to all Cogzians… In fact first to wish for my birthday from Cogzians & Vimala was the first to call me… It was followed by Major Karthik & then my mom & sister wished me… From then on;

  • Got calls till 2 AM & it started pouring from 7 AM… I got up by 10 AM and started picking and reverting calls…
  • Then emails were pouring from midnight… Parallel task 1 is to reply to emails while talking…
  • Then it was pouring wishes in FaceBook… Parallel task 2 is to reply FB wishes while replying to emails & picking calls :)…
  • Then Got a call from Hotel Accord Metropolitan to wish me for my birthday… I asked them to book table for 12 people & my bad luck all tables were full… I got a bit nervous and upset because I asked all my folks not to carry lunch…
  • I asked Boopathi to book for some other star hotels for buffet & almost all star hotels were full with reservations :(…
  • Then I started to office by 12.30 PM & reached office by 1 PM… While driving I got the news that no hotel had free table including Green Park… Then I called a influential friend of mine & bang we got table in Green Park & that too with a discount with 30%…
  • After doing some small task we immediately started to Green Park… We were made to wait for 30 min to get the table…
  • In the mean time I found a friend of mine & invited me for a drink… After two shots to tequila I joined the team for lunch…
  • Before lunch I was asked to cut the cake & time to receive the gift by Team…
  • As usual it was time to pull down each other & time for showing our lighter side… Though we can’t blog about the fun we had… We spent almost 3 hours which ran in a jiffy
  • To my surprise Bill I received was Rs.3600/- for a 10 member buffet…
  • Came back to office & gave home made cakes from Cakes Allure…
  • Then I went to Adambakkam office and must thank Aravind who made the moment special by putting my true age “22” :)…

I must thank Bala Murugan, Boopathi, Ramanan, Sowmya, Soniya, Patrick, Sangeetha, Suganthi & Brigadeesh for making the day special… I really missed Vimala (first person who wished me :)) & Dhanalakshmi… Here are some snaps of the special moment;

Success does not happen in isolation

There was a farmer who grew superior quality and award-winning CORN. Each year he entered his CORN in the state fair where it won honor and prizes.

Once a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learnt something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors’.

“How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?” the reporter asked.

“Why sir, “said the farmer, “didn’t you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior, sub-standard and poor quality corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of My corn.

If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn

The farmer gave a superb insight into the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbor’s corn also improves. So it is in the other dimensions! Those who choose to be at harmony must help their neighbors and colleagues to be at peace. Those who choose to live well must help others to live well. The value of a life is measured by the lives it touches.

Moral: Success does not happen in isolation. It is very often a participative and collective process. So share the good practices, ideas, new learning’s with your family, team members, neighbor

Muscle Catch Spoils Madurai Plans

Came to Madurai with loads of agenda fitted within 2 days… Unfortunately my Muscle Catch aggravated & I was unable to get down from the bus & walk… With great difficulty I reached home… I’ve never been thru such a severe pain… I didn’t think of any other thing & immediately started sleeping even though I had a good sleep in the bus…

I didn’t bother to pick any of the calls & got up only by 4… Then went to a near by hotel to have some grub… Then went to office by 6 PM only to find that there was a power shutdown…

After some small power meetings I thought that I can at least start my Birthday Party from my Madurai mates… Had a nice fun filled dinner at Taj Pasumalai & Netherlands – England match was a bonus…

After that it was time for a movie with Satheesh… Went to the movie Aadu-Puli an average movie… Did all this with severe back pain…

Then went back home & slept till 5 PM today… When I woke up I badly wanted to treat my back before proceeding to any other work… Also had to postpone my return to Chennai to honour Laxman’s invitation for bachelors party…

Then went to office at 6 & had meetings with Major, Sathick, Bala & Jegan all within one & half hours…

Then went for a Psysio treatment from my friend Madhan & my thank him a zillion… He immediately figured the problem & released the trigger points… Then he gave from stretches & now am feeling much better…

Then came the shocker… I didn’t eat from the morning & thought I can freak the Buffet… Unfortunately there was a party in Fortune Pandian hotel & all tables were full…

Looking at spreads made mouth watery :(… Then we had to cancel the plan… Thanks to Laxman for postponing my trip for nothing & making me starve…

Then went for dinner in a Hotel near by called Sangam only to get a very very bad service…

Now I’m back at home & I’ve a train to catch by 6.30 AM tomorrow… If I sleep I can’t wake-up that early…

Time to fiddle with my blackberry & must take nice nap in the train…

The Coming Changes in Life and lifestyle – Not Political

Whether these changes are good or bad depends in part on how we adapt to them. But, ready or not, here they come!

  1. The Post Office: Get ready to imagine a world without the post office.  They are so deeply in financial trouble that there is probably no way to sustain it long term. Email, Fed Ex, and UPS have just about wiped out the minimum revenue needed to keep the post office alive. Most of your every day mail  is junk mail and bills..
  2. The Check: Britain is already laying  groundwork to do away with checks by 2018. It costs the financial system billions of dollars a year to process checks. Plastic cards and online transactions will lead to the eventual demise of the check. This plays right into the death of the post office. If you never paid your bills by mail and never received them by mail, the post office would absolutely go out of business.
  3. The Newspaper: The younger generation doesn’t read newspapers. They don’t subscribe to a daily delivered print edition. Newspapers will go the way of the milkman and the laundry man. As for reading the paper online, get ready to pay for it.. The rise in mobile Internet devices and  e-readers has caused all the newspaper and magazine publishers to form an alliance. They have met with Apple, Amazon, and the major cell phone  companies to develop a model for paid subscription services.
  4. The Book: You say you will never give up the physical book that you hold in your hand and turn the literal pages. I said the same thing about downloading music from iTunes. I wanted my hard copy CD. But I quickly changed my mind when I discovered that I could get albums for half the price without ever leaving home to get the latest music. The same thing will happen with books. You can browse a bookstore online and even read a preview chapter before you buy. And the price is less than half that of a real  book. And think of the convenience! Once you start flicking your fingers on the screen instead of the book, you find that you are lost in the story, can’t wait to see what happens next, and you forget that you’re holding a gadget instead of a book.
  5. The Land Line Telephone: Unless you have a large family and make a lot of local calls, you don’t need it anymore. Most people keep it simply because they’ve always had it. But you are paying double charges for that extra service. All the cell phone companies will let you call customers using the same cell provider for no charge against your minutes.
  6. Music: This is the saddest part of the change story. The music industry is dying a slow death, and not just because of illegal downloading.  It’s the lack of innovative new music being given a chance to get to the people who would like to hear it. Greed and corruption are the problem. The record labels and the radio conglomerates are simply self-destructing. Over 40% of the music purchased today are “catalog items,” meaning it’s traditional music that the public is familiar with, by older established artists. This is also true on the live concert circuit. To explore this fascinating and disturbing topic further, check out the book, “Appetite for Self-Destruction” by Steve Knopper, and the video documentary, “Before the Music Dies.”
  7. Television: Revenues to the networks are down dramatically. Not just because of the economy. People are watching TV and movies streamed from their computers. And they’re playing games and doing lots of other things that take up the time that used to be spent watching TV.  Prime time shows have degenerated to lower than the lowest common denominator. Cable rates are skyrocketing and commercials run about every 4 minutes and 30 seconds. I say good riddance to most of it. It’s time for the cable companies to be put out of our misery.. Let the people choose what they want to watch online and through Netflix.
  8. The “Things” That You Own: Many of the very possessions that we used to own are still in our lives, but we may not actually own them in the future. They may simply reside in “the cloud.” Today your computer has a hard drive and you store your pictures, music, movies, and documents. Your software is on a CD or DVD, and you can always re-install it if need be. But all of that is changing. Apple, Microsoft, and Google are all finishing up their latest “cloud services.” That means that when you turn on a computer, the Internet will be built into the operating system. So, Windows, Google, and the Mac OS will be tied straight into the Internet. If you click an icon, it will open something in the Internet cloud. If you save something, it will be saved to the cloud. And you may pay a monthly subscription fee to the cloud provider. In this virtual world, you can access your music or your books, or your whatever from any laptop or handheld device. That’s the good news. But, will you actually own any of this “stuff” or will it all be able to disappear at any moment in a big “Poof?” Will most of the things in our lives be disposable and whimsical? It makes you want to run to the closet and pull out that photo album, grab a book from the shelf, or open up a CD case and pull out the insert.
  9. Privacy: If there ever was a concept that we can look back on nostalgically, it would be privacy. That’s gone. It’s been gone for a long time anyway. Try Google search on your name and see how much information is available and you will be appalled.  There are cameras on the street, in most of the buildings, and even built into your computer and cell phone. But you can be sure that 24/7, “They” know who you are and where you are, right down to the GPS coordinates, and the Google Street View. If you buy something, your habit is put into a zillion profiles, and your ads will change to reflect those habits. And “They” will try to get you to buy something else. Again and again.

All we will have,that can’t be changed, are our Memories.

Greatest Embarrassment

Looking at the amount of response I got from SMS’ing my friends about a Job Opening… I thought it would be nice if I can keep sending SMS to friends so that they can help me in closing those requirement… Yesterday I again SMS’ed all my friends about an Opening in Business Development… The requirement was for Female Candidates & a typo has cause real embarrassment because I SMS’ed the requirement to my clients, business associates other than my friends, relatives & associates (at-least I can explain them)…

Here is the message I sent & the typo is marked in red;

Power of Friends Network & Technology

There were several openings which were getting delayed… Particularly Admin Assistant profile was very challenging because we were trying to close this opening for 3+ months now… Over a point our Admin Manager was getting too busy with work and he was often overloaded with work… it was time that we had to find an assistant for him to work effectively…

When I was thinking on the reason for slow progress on all opening I wanted to try different process to;

  • Close the openings for smooth functioning…
  • Create a methodology for HR – Recruitment Process…

Of that I wanted to try the power of networking and I tried posting it on FaceBook, Blog and other social networking forums… Unfortunately I didn’t get the response and later I found our the reason that my posts got buried under numerous messages that gets listed on the wall…

The I wanted to give a try by sending an SMS to all friends about the requirement… With the help BlackBerry I was able to shoot (SMS) the content to all my friends… Also I did this around 3 AM when I was about to crash… To my surprise when I got up in the morning i already got 3 reference from my friends… Also in the subsequent days I started getting calls from a lot of people…

I must thank my friends because they forwarded the message to their friend list even if they didn’t have any reference… Finally we closed the long pending requirement for Admin Assistant…

So here is the SMS text sent to my friends;
