SriKalahastri Trip

It has been hectic schedule in business & also in personal commitments too. My present concerns are to make my new ventures a great success, to spend good time with my friends, be consistent in my blogging etc. But my mothers concerns are different, she is worried about my marriage and she wanted to do a Raghu Pooja in SriKalahastri. I didn’t want to disappoint my mother’s sentiments and I obliged to goto temple and perform the pooja…

We decided to goto SriKalahastri on Sunday(16th Nov 2008). Kalahastri is 120 KM from Chennai & is located in Chitoor district of Andra Pradesh. We planned to start from home by 1.30 PM so that we can reach temple by 4.30. Pooja must be performed between 4.30 PM – 6.00 PM because that is Ravugalam & pooja must be performed at that tim But we had an unexpected visit of a guest by 1.00 PM and we were able to start from home only by 3.30PM. We have two ways to route to reach Kalahastri from Chennai. We choose the shortest route redhills/tada route which is the shortest… Wonderful road and nice drive, but still we were late and reached temple by 6 o clock. So decided to have a normal prayer and again planned to make it on Tuesday(18th Nov 2008).

On return we took the renigunta road, which is little long in terms of KM & roads were also bad. We reached home little late by around 10 o clock in the night. Travel was of great experience, had nice discussion with my sister, it has been long since we had spent time for each other. Then saw a major accident near thiruvallur where a bus ran over a bike, road was flooded with blood, I wanted to take some snaps and wanted to share it in my blog but my mother did allow me to do it and she immediately wanted me to move from that place. I obliged to my mothers request and continued my drive. Then reached home slept & did normal work on Monday.

Again started on Tuesday to SriKalahastri, this time it Ravugalam was between 3.30PM – 5 PM. We started from home by 12 noon & this time decided to use redhills/tada route to & foe. This is a best route at present because of good roads, but we have a toll plaza near ponneri a kilometer before & after the toll gate roads are pathetic. Took some snaps to share it.

En route to SriKalahastri near Varadapalayam & you can see me in the picture…

Then reached the temple by 3.15 PM and got a ticket and had pooja done by 4 o clock, had good darshan & returned back to Chennai on the same tada/redhills road. SriKalahastri – Varadapalayam – Tada road was little narrow and had lots of narrow curves & speed breakers. Caught hold of a car, think the driver is a frequent driver in the route and he maintained good speed. Driver understood that we are following him to have a smooth drive & in the mean time maintain his speed and he helped me by giving appropriate signals. Without him I couldn’t have driven in that speed as it was pitch dark.

Then had a normal drive back home & it was yet another 300 KM drive. It was interesting to have driven 600 KM within 50 hours… It was a nice experience & I’m happy because my parents are happy & I made them happy by somehow sparing time for pooja. It was an happy ending & I headed to Madurai immediately after reaching Chennai.

Failure is a step before success – STORY OF SOICHIRO HONDA

imageLike most other countries, Japan was hit badly by the Great Depression of the 1930s. In 1938, Soichiro Honda was still in school, when he started a little workshop, developing the concept of the piston ring.

His plan was to sell the idea to Toyota. He labored night and day, even slept in the workshop, always believing he could perfect his design and produce a worthy product. He was married by now, and pawned his wife’s jewelry for working capital.

Finally, came the day he completed his piston ring and was able to take a working sample to Toyota, only to be told that the rings did not meet their standards! Soichiro went back to school and suffered ridicule when the engineers laughed at his design.

He refused to give up. Rather than focus on his failure, he continued working towards his goal. Then, after two more years of struggle and redesign, he won a contract with Toyota.

By now, the Japanese government was gearing up for war! With the contract in hand, Soichiro Honda needed to build a factory to supply Toyota, but building materials were in short supply. Still he would not quit! He invented a new concrete-making process that enabled him to build the factory.

With the factory now built, he was ready for production, but the factory was bombed twice and steel became unavailable, too. Was this the end of the road for Honda? No!

He started collecting surplus gasoline cans discarded by US fighters – “Gifts from President Truman,” he called them, which became the new raw materials for his rebuilt manufacturing process. Finally, an earthquake destroyed the factory.

After the war, an extreme gasoline shortage forced people to walk or use bicycles. Honda built a tiny engine and attached it to his bicycle. His neighbors wanted one, and although he tried, materials could not be found and he was unable to supply the demand.

Was he ready to give up now? No! Soichiro Honda wrote to 18,000 bicycles shop owners and, in an inspiring letter, asked them to help him revitalize Japan. 5,000 responded and advanced him what little money they could to build his tiny bicycle engines. Unfortunately, the first models were too bulky to work well, so he continued to develop and adapt, until finally, the small engine ‘The Super Cub’ became a reality and was a success. With success in Japan, Honda began exporting his bicycle engines to Europe and America.

End of story? No! In the 1970s there was another gas shortage, this time in America and automotive fashion turned to small cars. Honda was quick to pick up on the trend. Experts now in small engine design, the company started making tiny cars, smaller than anyone had seen before, and rode another wave of success.

Today, Honda Corporation employs over 100,000 people in the USA and Japan, and is one of the world’s largest automobile companies. Honda succeeded because one man made a truly committed decision, acted upon it, and made adjustments on a continuous basis. Failure was simply not considered a possibility.

American Attitude

A man is taking a walk in Central park in New York.

Suddenly he sees a little girl being attacked by a pit bull dog.

He runs over and starts fighting with the dog. He succeeds in killing the dog and saving the girl’s life.

A policeman who was watching the scene! walks over and says: “You are a hero, tomorrow you can read it in all the newspapers: “Brave New Yorker saves the life of little girl”.

The man says: “But I am not a New Yorker!”

Oh then it will say in newspapers in the morning: “Brave American saves life of little girl” the policeman answers.

“But I am not an American!” – says the man.

“Oh, what are you then?”

The man says: “I am a Pakistani!”

The next day the newspapers say: “A Terrorist Kills Innocent American Dog!”.

Peak of boredom

This is called the peak of boredom, this is a conversation between my friend AJITH(Who represents by name YOU) with his friend ABBAS(represented by Jeremy).

Jeremy: Welcome To SingleHop.com. My name is Jeremy how can I help you?
Jeremy: Hello
you: Hi.
Jeremy: How can I assist you?
you: Is this a bot or a real person please?
Jeremy: lol, this is a real person.
you: Who are the 2 candidates contesting e l e c t i o n today in U s ?
Jeremy: Obama, and McCain
you: ok.. A million apologies for that Jeremy… We just get bogged down by the tonnes of automated bots that claim to be live sales rep.
you: pl accept my apologies
you: We are looking forward to setting up an e comm store.. Are we contacting the right company?
Jeremy: Yes we have many e-commece sites setup on our network and would be glad to have you on board.
you: Could you please give clear instructions on which company we have to approach and whom we need to contact to setup an e commerce website?
Jeremy: Do you need the server for the site, or do you need the actuall website design?
you: both..
Jeremy: Well we can set you up with a server for your site, but cannot assist with the design.
you: we need someone who can take up the entire contract… we need to know the best price as we are running short of budget and are not willing to spend a penny more than 45k
you: We approached 2 companies who quoted over 100k..
Jeremy: All I can do is quote you for the server it would take to run it.
Jeremy: I cannot quote you on the scripting or site design.
Jeremy: What kind of site are you going to be running
you: an e commerce site… selling lingerie…
Jeremy: ok
you: We have stocked inventory that we plan to liquidate..
Jeremy: What kind of operating system?
Jeremy: Windows or Linux?
you: Sorry? I have windows Wista running on my mac
you: is that wat you wanted to know?
Jeremy: For the server, what OS would you need on it?
you: Sorry? u mean SOS? We need a website to be designed developed.. and e commerce portal.. selling apparel..
you: Im not too familiar with this computer jargon.. im a fashion designer..
Jeremy: I am sorry, you will probably need to speak with a programmer and then see what kind of language they will write it in. Then we can set you up with the server to host your site on.
you: If i have to choose between those two options, then i would go for windows…
you: Site will be hosted in US and EU. Hence, English language to start with. Later we plan to expand to France.. and will then design a french site as well..
you: Can you please connect me to the server now? We would like to talk to them..
Jeremy: I am sorry we do not do programming here. You would want to talk to a programmer first. We are a dedicated server company. Once you have your site designed and written you would then come to us to host your website.
you: Dedicated? You really do not seem to address our queries. I would not call your company dedicate.. Im sorry. if you could provide some contact to get the whole project done, then thanks in advance. If not, we shall call it quits!
you: Are you there?
Jeremy: Yes, I am trying to explain that we do not do programming or site design.
Jeremy: We only provide dedicated servers.
you: ok.. how many servers please?
you: we plan to host thousands of products.
Jeremy: You most likely would only need 1 with a large hard drive, and then a backup hard drive in case the first one fails.l
Jeremy: Let me get you a quote.
Jeremy: Do you have an e-mail address I can send a quote to you.
you: sure…
you: grrrr@googlemail.com
Jeremy: Ok I will, send a quote within the next 15 minutes.
you: thank you.
you: have a nice day madam..
Jeremy: Your welcome.

Hare & Tortoise Story

Once upon a time a tortoise and a hare had an argument about who was faster. They decided to settle the argument with a race. They agreed on a route and started off the race. The hare shot ahead and ran briskly for some time. Then seeing that he was far ahead of the tortoise, he thought he’d sit under a tree for some time and relax before continuing the race. He sat under the tree and soon fell asleep. The tortoise plodding on overtook him and soon finished the race, emerging as the undisputed champ. The hare woke up and realized that he’d lost the race.

The moral- “Slow and steady wins the race. This is the version of the story that we’ve all grown up with.”

THE STORY DOESN’T END HERE, there are few more interesting things…..it continues as follows….. .

The hare was disappointed at losing the race and he did some soul-searching. He realized that he’d lost the race only because he had been overconfident, careless and lax. If he had not taken things for granted, there’s no way the tortoise could have beaten him. So he challenged the tortoise to another race. The tortoise agreed. This time, the hare went all out and ran without stopping from start to finish. He won by several miles.

The moral – ” Fast and consistent will always beat the slow and steady. It’s good to be slow and steady; but it’s better to be fast and reliable.”

THE STORY DOESN’T END HERE

The tortoise did some thinking this time, and realized that there’s no way it can beat the hare in a race the way it was currently formatted. It thought for a while, and then challenged the hare to another race, but on a slightly different route. The hare agreed. They started off. In keeping with his self-made commitment to be consistently fast, the hare took off and ran at top speed until he came to a broad river. The finishing line was a couple of kilometres on the other side of the river. The hare sat there wondering what to do. In the meantime the tortoise trundled along, got into the river, swam to the opposite bank, continued walking and finished the race.

The moral – ” First identify your core competency and then change the playing field to suit your core competency.”

THE STORY STILL HASN’T ENDED.

The hare and the tortoise, by this time, had become pretty good friends and they did some thinking together. Both realized that the last race could have been run much better. So they decided to do the last race again, but to run as a team this time. They started off, and this time the hare carried the tortoise till the riverbank. There, the tortoise took over and swam across with the hare on his back. On the opposite bank, the hare again carried the tortoise and they reached the finishing line together. They both felt a greater sense of satisfaction than they’d felt earlier.

The moral – “It’s good to be individually brilliant and to have strong core competencies; but unless you’re able to work in a team and harness each other’s core competencies, you’ll always perform below par because there will always be situations at which you’ll do poorly and someone else does well.

Teamwork is mainly about situational leadership, letting the person with the relevant core competency for a situation take leadership.

Note that neither the hare nor the tortoise gave up after failures. The hare decided to work harder and put in more effort after his failure. The tortoise changed his strategy because he was already working as hard as he could.”

In life, when faced with failure, sometimes it is appropriate to work harder and put in more effort. Sometimes it is appropriate to change strategy and try something different. And sometimes it is appropriate to do both. The hare and the tortoise also learnt another vital lesson. When we stop competing against a rival and instead start competing against the situation, we perform far better.

To sum up, the story of the hare and tortoise has much to say:
Chief among them are that fast and consistent will always beat slow and steady;
work to your competencies;
pooling resources and working as a team will always beat individual performers;
never give up when faced with failure;
& finally, compete against the situation – not against a rival.

Loving someone??? Express it immediately…

IT’S 7TH GRADE..

I stared at the girl next to me… She was my so called “best friend”… I stared at her… Long, silky hair… And I wished she was mine… But she didn’t notice me like that… I knew it… After class she walked up to me and asked me for the notes she had missed the day before… And I handed them to her… She said “thanks”… And gave me a kiss on the cheek… I wanted to tell her… I want her to know that I don’t want to be “just friends”… I love her but I’m too shy to tell her… And I don’t know why…

IT’S JUNIOR YEAR..

My phone rang… On the other end it was her… She was in tears… Mumbling on and on about how her love had broken her heart… She asked me to come over because she didn’t want to be alone… So I did… As I sat next to her on the sofa… I stared at her soft eyes… Wishing she was mine… After 2 hours… I Drew Barrymore movie… And 3 bags of chips… She decided to go to sleep… She looked at me.. Said “thanks” and gave me a kiss on the cheek… I wanted to tell her… I want her to know… That I don’t want to be “just friends”… I love her but I’m too shy to tell her… And I don’t know why…

IT’S SENIOR YEAR..

The day before prom… She walked to my locker… “My date is sick” she said… He’s not going to go… Well… I didn’t have a date and in 7th grade… We made a promise that if neiter of us had dates… We’d go together just as “best friends”… And so we did…

IT’S PROM NIGHT..

After everything was over with… I was standing at her front door step… I stared at her … She smiled at me… I wanted her to be mine… But she doesn’t think of me like that… And I know it… Then she said “I had the best time… Thanks!”… And she gave me a kiss on the cheek… I wanted to tell her… I wanted her to know that I don’t want to be “just friends”… I love her but I’m just too shy… And I don’t know why…

IT’S GRADUATION DAY..

A day passed… And then a week… And then a month… Before I could blink… It was graduation day… I watched her… Perfect body… Floated like an angel up on stage to get her diploma… I wanted her to be mine… But she doesn’t think of me that way… And I know it… Before everyone went home… She came to me in her smock and hat… And cried as I hugged her… Then she lifted her head from my shoulders and said “you’re my best friend”… “Thanks!”… And gave me a kiss on the cheek… I wanted to tell her.. I wanted to know that I wanted to be more than “just friends”… I love her but I’m too shy… And I don’t know why…

IT’S A FEW YEARS LATER..

Now I sit in the pews of the church… A church that she is getting married in now… I watched her say “I do” an drive off to her new life… Married to another man… I wanted her to be mine… But she didn’t see me like that… And I knew it… But before she drove away… She came to me and said “You came!… Thanks!”… And she kissed me on the cheek… I wanted to tell her… I wantd her to know that I didn’t want to be “just friends”… I love her but I’m just too shy… And I don’t know why…

YEARS PASSED..

I looked down at the coffin of a girl who used to be my “best friend”… At the service they read a diary entry she had wrote in her high school years… This is what it said… “I stare at him… Wishing he was mine… But he doesn’t notice me like that… And I know it… I wanted to tell him… I wanted him to know… That I don’t want to be “just friends”… I love him but I’m just too shy… And I don’t know why… I wish he would tell me he loved me”… I wish I did too… I thought to myself and I cried…
rest in peace my Love

Know your value

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a Rupee 500 note.

In the room of 200, he asked, ‘Who would like this Rupee 500 note?’
Hands started going up.

He said, ‘I am going to give this note to one of you but first let me do this.’ He proceeded to crumple the note up.
He then asked, ‘Who still wants it?’
Still the hands were up in the air.

‘Well,’ he replied, ‘What if I do this?’ And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty.
‘Now who still wants it?’
Still the hands went into the air.

‘My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson.
No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth Rupee 500/-.

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless.

But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. You are special. Don’t ever forget it! Never let yesterday’s disappointments overshadow tomorrow’s dreams.
‘VALUE HAS A VALUE ONLY IF ITS VALUE IS VALUED’

Be patient

This is a true story which happened in the States. A man came out of
his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was happily hammering dents into the shiny paint of the truck.

The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy’s hands into pulp as punishment. When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital.

Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he
finally had to amputate the fingers from both the boy’s hands. When the boy woke up from the surgery & saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, ” Daddy,I’m sorry about your truck.” Then he asked, “but when are my fingers going to grow back?” The father went home & committed suicide.

Think about this story the next time someone steps on your feet or u
wish to take revenge. Think first before u lose your patience with
someone u love. Trucks can be repaired.. Broken bones & hurt feelings often can’t. Too often we fail to recognise the difference between the person and the performance. We forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge.

People make mistakes. We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will haunt us forever.
