Interesting Phase of Life

It has been 100 days in last 180 days in a Hospital… This is the biggest stretch as it is 45 days and counting in the hospital… This last 6 months has given a lot of time and lessons…

I had aversion for blood, anatomy, surgery and all medical things… I hated zoölogy for that and I didn’t think in my dreams that I’d be living and sharing space seeing such people and interacting with them…

My dad who is my hero as he has fought with life from his younger age… I’ve never seen him low in confidence or crying… Now I had to see such a man and some one who I love a lot CRY… Yep watched him cry and I was helpless…

Underwent the real fear in life… The fear of loosing someone close to heart… I’d say that is the worst experience someone can have… All other man-made fear like loosing money, legal disputes and fighting or competing with someone were the previous scary situations to me… But now I’ve been thru the fear shown by the almighty… I learned you can’t mess with super power…

The importance of knowledge and information… Though we are not medically literate we have to do our part if research because we might be exploited for ignorance and can fall prey to human error & negligence…

Last but not least understood and realised what FAITH is… What true faith will give you and how blissful it is… This time around did a lot of things which I once considered stupidity and superstition… Not sure which force stood by us… But I experienced FAITH… My day was filled with prayers 24/7…

Paying a Premium and Living with Sub-Standard Service

Not Touching Lives
Not Touching Lives
It has been a month at Apollo Speciality Hospital Teynampet… I fondly call it a premium government hospital for its worst service…

  • Had to live with the abuse and fuss from Lab technician to get CTI Scan images in a CD…
  • In pharmacy had to deal with the store keeper who tells his colleague to five medicine only if I tender exact change… When I questioned him he said I can complain anywhere…
  • We are paying nursing fee everyday but not getting duly attended… We are additionally hired a 24 hour special nurse to overcome their under staffing…
  • No floor boy or girl to do sponging (towel wash) and for clearing napkins… My sister and I help the special nurse to do such cords… Which has to be provided by the hospital…
  • A supposed to be 24 hour canteen will be locked most times in the night and after 2 AM the shopkeeper neatly sleeps…
  • Also canteen keepers also refuse to service if exact change is not tendered…
  • Floor nurses take patient utilities to other room patients if the fail to indeed them on time and they fail to replace them… Though this has happened 3 time in this one month I couldn’t accept this taken for granted attitude…
  • Security guards are another bunch of fools who pretend as if they are duty conscious… They follow crap process… With obey attenders pass we had to convince them mostly to get in… Else we have to talk to the security officer or ask my sister to give me the pass while changing over… There are also some understanding guards…
  • Also some guards are most corrupt and they allow people incidence CCU by getting bribe which Ian dangerous for other patients…
  • House keeping boys fuss to come answer clean the room for 2nd and 3rd time in a day…

In spite of all this issues from this not service and only money oriented hospital we are accepting and living with it because the have most of the best doctors… For my Dad I show a lot of restrain…

Still there is service centric hospitals like Narayana Hirudhalayala where everything is cheap like a meal is just rs.25 and a max cost of a coffee in Cafe Coffee Day inside the hospital is just Rs.30 compared to their premium pricing… Also a suite room cost in NH is the cost of a single room without a rest room cost of Apollo…

Apollo is definitely not touching lives… Over all I respect Apollo for treating my dad and not for any other single reason….

Hospital a place to stay away

At different stages in my life I wanted to stay away from different places…

– As a kid I hated schools and wanted to stay away from schools…
– When I had to visit a police station for the first time I waned to stay away…
– When I had some legal issues I had to goto courts… This was the last place I hated until now…

I’m almost living in a hospital for last 6 months to take care of my dad… All the above listed places could manage or handled… But a hospital is a place where we see more sorrow and pain of people…

Hospital is a place where emotions plays big part… Lots of strong people would be seen broken… This one place can teach you a million lessons…

Now if you ask me I’d be glad to visit and live in any other places I hate to the core; but definitely not a hospital…

In SRMC Hospital

As said in my privious blog…. I started the day with mild pain and thought of visiting the doctor during the week end..

Over the night swelling increased n pain was unberable…. Had to streatch the night with unbearable pain… After reaching home it(pain) only worsened… Then called a doctor uncle of mine who asked to apply some ice and it gave immediate solace…

As always the choice was Sei Ramachandra Medical College (SRMC) as it is economical, legitimate & its near to my house…

Since i couldnt walk i opted for a wheel chair… On the orthopadic block there was confusion as to consult which doctor? As I requested to meet the senior doctor and the file I carried had the history that I was consulting a different doctor before… Yes last time I visited to check up a ortho doctor to get an opinion…. I was asked to get a new file to meet a doctor of my choice…. Considering the time taken for getting a new file i agreed to meet the existing doctor…

Again doctor was on leave and i was asked to meet his assistant who was sitting on OP block… I pleaded to take me to any doctor who can attend me immediately…

Since private consultation is expensive than out patient consultation they had to get doctors consent and finally I got the permission… Again I was taken on a wheelchair by a lady attender….

  • First she crashed the stressed ankle in the lift…
  • Then on a person who was walking…

Then went to the block and again the uninformed nurseidols me that I was sitting on women’s ward…. I said I could bare the pain and requested for a change in rule… Fortunately a senior nurse came and said it is unisex 🙂 ward and there was no bifercation on gendre…

Finally I entered consultation room where two doctors were attending (one male and the other was a pretty female)… As always I prayed that she attends me and as history repeats my bad luck continued…. I was attended by male doctor :(… I was asked to get an x-ray…

Then went to the x- ray ward and they said private patients can’t take x-ray in OP ward… This time I gave up and it was my friend Ravi who ran pillar to post and made it happen… After seeing the x- ray I was told it was a Ligament Stress and was advised to take rest for a week, wear a band and take pain killer pills for a week…

Not sure how am I going to manage next couple of days as my parents won’t allow me to anything until I’m fully fit…

UnderGoing an Arthroscopy (surgery) today

I’m undergoing an Arthroscopy (surgery) today on my right shoulder… The reason for the surgery is to fix a damage caused by previous surgery which I did 5 years back…

So what is it all about???

A decade back I skidded from a two wheeler which started causing frequent dislocation on my right shoulder… Over time the number of iterations started increasing… So, it was recommended to go for a Key-Hole surgery where in loosened capsules on the shoulder were to be screwed and tied…

Then over a period of time moments on my right hand has been restricted and use of that hand has also been limited… Limited usage of the hand has resulted in damage of muscles which has changed my body posture… Also I couldn’t do 25% of the work in a day because of restricted moments… Another effect is I couldn’t play or go for physical workouts…

After 5 years of follow up with the doctors who performed the surgery I couldnt see any respite… I was always told everything was fine… Then I even took physio councelling and treatments… Again there was no respite…

By this time I met a old family friend who is a Doctor specialised in ortho… He referred me to meet a specialist in Coimbatore… After tarough review I was asked in to go for an Arthroscopy (another surgery)…

With all previous experience I took some time to decide and went for 2nd and 3rd opinion… All doctors recommended a surgery…

Now I’ve decided to go for a surgery and it is happening today by 1.30 PM in a hospital in Coimbatore…

With the blessings of almighty and well washers like you I hope surgery will be smooth and I get recovered quickly…

Emergency Experience

It was saturday night & i’ve planned to party after a while. My friends & I were already in a hotel and the time we were about to enter the discotheque I got a call from my friend Sriram & Bala that they were in trouble. When i called them back i was requested to come to MIOT hospital without wasting time on phone.

Instantly we cancelled all our program and I reached MIOT hospital in 20 min. I was shocked to see some 5 of my friends bleeding and were in a critical state. Normally I’m scared to see people who have met with accidents. This time i didn’t know where i got the confidence from. I was able to handle the situation. To my surprise;

  • I saw all my friends & was able to console them.
  • I did all the documentation formalities in the Hospital.
  • Handled the COPS.

I must say doctor attending emergency patients single handedly managed the situation well with his support staff. When i left of them were taken to ICU & I reached home to take some rest.

After waking up by noon I called up folks & was glad that everyone was shifted to normal ward and everyone was out of danger.

Then i went to the hospital to meet them. By this time most of the family members were already there & my friends were screwed by their parents & wives.

Other irony for them was they were getting calls from friends & relatives and they had to explain what has happened to everyone. I think each of them would have explained the situation to friends, relatives, cops & hospital staff at-least 50 times each.

I didn’t want them to be serious and we started making joke of the situation and we all made hospital as a get-together event. Now they are all out of danger & letz prey for their speedy recovery.

Will keep you all posted about their recovery process.

Watched a man die’ing

Went to a Hospital in Madurai to see one of our employee who got admitted. He was in ICU and went in to see him. Sadly a guy next to his bed was die’ing and this happened in front of my eyes.

On enquiry the man was trying to board a running train and he slipped to catch the handle and fell down injuring his head.

When he was dieing his wife was with him watching him die and we were watching the monitor where pulse was falling. Doctors tried their level best pumping his heart. Atlast they declared him dead.

It was a very miserable experience in my life where in i watched a human die & seeing his wife handling the situation was even sad.

God mist be crazy to expose me to such experience.
