Met couple of people for STARTUP Community Website

Today had meeting with Bala Murugan who is the chief architect of this site. Also we met with couple of people today to get their insights about the concept and asked for their availability to be a part of it. Couple of people has shown interest to be a part of it.

So I took a print out of my previous blog post which is the starting point for our discussion. Bala was happy with the list of things I showed him and also we have added couple of more features.

So we made a list of things which has to be completed before our next meeting.

  • There are some options for domain and book the available one.
  • Choose volunteers and these are as per priorities
    • Technology Geek: Some one having passion for LAMP technologies as we will be integration many open source and PHP freeware.
    • Vertical managers/admin: Someone having passion to manage websites and good in research with wide knowledge in using Google & social media.
    • Content writers: Bala said he can rope in content writers from different verticals.

List looks small but I think it will be a challenging task to coordinate and form a group that have common interest and passion to make it big. But I think the first priority to get tech geek who has tremendous passion for LAMP technologies and passion for community contribution. Once when we get such a person we can start working on the website and simultaneously look for other people.

So one thing what came in our mind is to answer a common question;

What is in it for us if we volunteer?

The answer this is a community website and all the initial members will be co-founders. Also members can benefit only after making the website a brand and it is upto them to make use of the brand. Since it is a community it is more of giving than taking and one must always believe that Givers Take.

I’m happy we have taken this to next level and would be glad to make some progress everyday. You can expect a blog from me for every progress.

Once again please ping me if you are interested to volunteer for any of the above positions or you can help us by passing this message through blog posts or by twitting in twitter or any other available methods.

Community Website for Startups

We are planning to launch a community driven website for Startups. I can see several forums and forums for startups but I don’t think so if they are really catering for Startup’s real needs. So, I think these are some good features which will be helpful for startups;

Jobs Portal: This feature will allow startups to share their resumes database and also we will allow candidates to post their resumes for free. Startups in time of need can access these resumes.

Marketplace: Startups can post their abundant resource for barter or for sale. Also startup which is in need of any resource can make use of abundant resource.

Forum: This is one common element which is a part of any community portal.

Directory: Startups can list their company and service in this column.

Blogs: We would request prominent personalities of different sector to write blog in their specialization which will be helpful for startups.

Webinars: Frequent webinars which helps startups in training and knowledge sharing.

Resource Index: This section will contain information like;

  • Startup Due-diligence
  • Docs like Offer letter, Relieving letter, Termination letter, Employee Contracts etc.
  • Business plan writing tips

Contests: Monthly contests with special gifts.

Events Calendar: Update on startup events calendar for events like Proto, Headstart, Startup Saturdays, OCC meets etc.

Kindly pass if you have any other ideas or features I missed. Also we are looking for volunteers to maintain the site. Please soot and email to anand@anandnataraj.com if you are interested to be a part.

Please Be Careful. Please use left ear while using cell (mobile), because if you use the right one it may affect brain directly. This is a true fact from Apollo medical team.

Appy FIZZ: Do not drink APPY FIZZ. It contains cancer causing agent.

Mentos: Don’t eat Mentos before or after drinking Coke or Pepsi coz the person will die immediately as the mixture becomes cyanide.

They contain Phenyl- Propanol -Amide PPA. Which Causes strokes, and these tablets are banned in U.S.

Cotton Ear Buds: Please do not show sympathy to people selling buds on roadside or at Signals(In India). Just wanted to warn you people not to buy those packs of ear buds you get at the roadside. It’s made from cotton that has already been used in hospitals. They take all the dirt, blood and pus filled cotton, wash it, bleach it and use it to make ear buds. So, unless you want to become the first person in the world to get Herpes Zoster Oticus (a viral infection of the inner, middle, and external ear) of the ear and that too from a cotton bud, DON’T BUY THEM!.

Power of the Start

Got this email from Mr.Padmanaban, founder Chennai Entrepreneurship Club and wanted to share it with you all.

Loved the piece I just read on Chester Carlson.

  • He graduated in The Great Depression.
  • Applied for a job with 82 companies.
  • Finally got a basic job as a patent researcher and had to reproduce copies by hand.
  • He thought there had to be a better way.
  • Even better, he acted on his big idea.

Through hard work and innovation he eventually came up with a process called ‘electrography’. Carlson tried to sell it to 20 companies and there were Lots of “No’s”.

Few people can see genius until the big idea gets traction. Then it seems so very obvious (think iPod. Think Twitter. Think Google.).

Finally he met Joe Wilson, the president of Haloid, a company that produced photo paper. Wilson bought the dream. The company was renamed. And Xerox was born.

Hope you all have the sprit like Chester Carlson.

Insights about New Pension Scheme (NPS)

India has come a long way from being considered conservative to moderate type of a country. Though it takes time for things to materialize here we can be sure it happens one day and one such example is the arrival of New Pension Scheme.

Let me point out some information I gathered about this plan.

  • Concept of NPS was initiated in the year 1993 and it has finally come true during May 01, 2009. It took 16 years to come into existence.
  • Old plan is termed as defined benefit plan where we know what the return we will get. Where as in the New Plan it is called defined contribution and the return is based on how well the fund performs.
  • The system has a simple framework;
    • There are designated Point of Presence (POPs) at this point these are mostly banks. These POPs will be the frond end where we can get the account opening procedures.
    • All records will be managed by National Security Depository Limited (NSDL).
    • Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has appointed six entities which will manage the funds (Fund Managers). At present six fund managers are State Bank of India, UTI, ICICI Prudential, Kotak Mahindra, IDFC and Reliance.
  • Fund types vary from equity, government securities and bonds.
  • Investment management fee is as low as 0.009 percent per annum.
  • Anyone between the age group of 18 – 55 can join the scheme.
  • After opening the account we will be given Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) along with telephone and internet passwords.
  • No ceiling on investment but the minimum amount to be invested is Rs.500/- per month or Rs.6000/- per annum.
  • If we fail to invest the minimum amount we have to pay a penalty of Rs.100/- to reactivate the account.
  • Money we deposited cannot be withdrawn until we become 60 years old. Also after 60 years we can withdraw only 60 percent and the balance must be used to buy an annuity.
  • Gains from NPS are taxable.

Like wise this scheme has many advantages and disadvantages and by time those glitches will also be fixed. Things that prompt me to invest in this scheme are;

  • Government regulators have always safe guarded the interest of public.
  • Since this is a social security underperformance or corruption will become an election issue and government will not entertain any mess-ups with this scheme.
  • Power of Indian population will play economies of scale and hence this fund will not fall short of liquidity.
  • Any government backed entity will raise people’s confidence. Examples: LIC, Bank Savings etc.

So, these are some points I collected about NPS and reasons why I’ll invest in it. If I missed some point please be generous enough to post them as comment.
