Suicide

Today morning I woke up only to hear a bad news that one of our good family friends and one time tenant has committed suicide two days back by hanging herself. I was really angry and had no words to utter. I’ve seen her as an inspirational lady. She was very much enterprising and I heard she was one of the early for women in her town to drive a car. She is known for her courage and talking face to face.

On hearing that she is no more has really upset me. He has a 10 year old kid and she hails from a wealthy family. I’m sure she must have faced many odds in her life before and she has stayed strong. It puzzles me what made her to take such a crazy move.

In Tamil there is a proverb Tharkolai (Suicide) Empathu (Is) Kozhainga (Cowards) Yeducura (Taking) Deiriyamana (Bold) Mudivu (Decision). It make it simple it “Suicide is a Bold Decision taken by Cowards”. After getting emotional I wanted to do some research on why people commit suicide.

Why people commit Suicide?

There is multiple reason for one to commit suicide and there are different types of suicide too…

Some types of Suicide are;

  • Euthanasia and assisted suicide: This one is something like a mercy killing where in a person who lacks courage to get killed will be helped by some third party to get killed.
  • Murder-suicide: This is a kind of killing where one kills others and finally ends his life. In India off late farmers suicide has become common for poverty. So these farmers with an intention not to make their family suffer after their death kill their family and finally end their life.
  • Suicide attack: This one is common now-a-days in terrorism where in suicide bomber kills himself and innocent people.
  • Self-injury: Self-injury is not a suicide attempt; however, initially self-injury was erroneously classified as a suicide attempt. There is a non-causal correlation between self-harm and suicide; both are most commonly a joint effect of depression.
  • Suicide locations: We all must be familiar with this like we have tourist points like Suicide Point where people commit suicide.
  • Multiple suicides: Some suicides are done under peer pressure or as a group. Mostly terror groups follow this to avoid capture and torture.

Reasons of Suicide;

  • Anger
  • Love
  • Stigma
  • Behavior
  • Insecurity / fear

Over all there may be plenty of reason but my judgment is Suicide is also a way of terrorism. We don’t have the right to take our own life. Having created us we / our lives are owned by almighty and he knows when to take someone to him. Person committing the act doesn’t know how far it will affect their closed one and put them into unnecessary trauma. As a family friend after knowing this I’m upset and I’m unable to concentrate on any work, imaging how it would have taken a toll on others around them.

Anyways happened is happened and all I can do it prey for her soul to rest in peace.

Ganesh Chadurthi @Home

GANESH6-SmallLast week it was Ganesh Chadurthi a festival dedicated for lord Ganesh & famous with Hindus all over the world and particularly in India.

So who Ganesh is?

Lord Ganesh is the elder son of Lord Shiva & Parvathy…

Why Ganesh Chadurthi is celebrated?

Clay Idol we brought last week
Clay Idol we brought last week

Lord Shiva had Nandhi Deva as guard the house of Godess Parvathi. One day Godess Parvathi instructed Nandhi Deva not to allow inside the house as she is taking bath. Lord Shiva arrived at that time and Nandhi Deva allowed his as he is her husband and God of resolution. This Irked Godess Parvathi as Nandi Deva didnt obey her.

Then Lord Shiva was away for war. This time Godess Parvati wanted to bathe and having no-one to guard the door to her house, conceived of the idea of creating a son who could guard her & obey her orders. Parvati created Ganesha out of the sandalwood paste that she used for her bath and breathed life into the figure. She then set him to stand guard at her door and instructed him not to let anyone enter.

In the meantime, Lord Shiva returned from the battle but as did not know about Ganesha. Also Ganesha stopped Shiva from entering Parvati’s chamber. Shiva, angered by Ganesh’s impudence and cut off Ganesha’s head with his trident. Parvati emerged to find Ganesha decapitated and flew into a rage. She took on the form of the Goddess Kali and threatened destruction to the three worlds of Heaven, Earth and the subterranean earth.

Seeing her in this mood, the other Gods were afraid. Lord Shiva, in an attempt to pacify Parvati, sent out his deciples, to find a child whose mother is facing another direction in negligence, cut off his head of the child and bring it quickly. Also he said the head must reach him before the end of dawn.

The first living thing they came across was an elephant. That elephant was facing north (the auspicious direction associated with wisdom). So they brought the head of this elephant and Shiva placed it on the trunk of Parvati’s son and breathed life into him.

Parvati was overjoyed and embraced her son, the elephant-headed boy whom Shiva named Ganesha, the lord of his ganas (devoties / followers). Parvati was still upset so Lord Shiva announced that everyone who worships Ganesha before any other form of God is favored. So Ganesh is worshipped first in all Hindu occasions and festivals.

This is why we celebrate Ganesh Chadurthi…

DSC01491DSC01492Hailing from a Hindu family we celebrate as a grand occasion but performing pooja & cooking special food. We buy clay idol of Lord Ganesha and perform abhishegam on the idol. You can see picture on the left taken after performing abshegam by my father & specially cooked food in front of god to celebrate the occasion. We keep the idol in our Prayer Room for 3 days and immerse it in Sea or Pond or River or well inside our home. After the pooja is over first we offer a part of food to Crow (which we consider as our ancestors). After the Crow eats the first bite we come back and cherish the special food cooked. Also in the menu there will be Kozhukattai & Sundal which is my favorite.

Day of Coffees

The day started with loads of appointments. But to my surprise all the appointments were cancelled and had nothing to do. Then I & Balaji had long pending shopping to do. So Balaji made some shopping in Mega Mart and then we left to iStore in to buy Laptop bag for my new Mac book.

Then we thought of having coffee at 36 Degrees Coffee & Juice Shop near Foreshore estate. We picked up two more friends and went to the coffee shop. To start off with things were not smooth as Balaji got irritated that there were no coffee’s in a coffee shop. So we settled for Sandwiches & Shakes. But Balaji got carried away with The Ambience and with the quality of food and drink… Also the price was very nominal and Balaji was finally happy.

When we entered 360 degrees there was a curious looking Birthday girl named Cathy dressed like an angel was sitting in the entrance expecting her friends for her birthday party. When we are half way having our grub slowly Cathy’s friends and their parents started dropping in with gifts.

You can imagine how the place would have become with a bunch of kids between the age group of 4 – 6 years. Kids were playing with balloons. Then Cathy’s parents arranged for magic show and the Magician really presented well in front of kids… I realized how smart these kids were when the magician was asking for colors, remembering the counts, remembering the name of cards and also finding out the trick played by him. It was absolute chaos. But watching tiny tots enjoying was real fun. Initially we though we have to vacate the place thinking we might be a hindrance for their privacy. But the magician involved other guest like us and got us connected with the party.

Then we walked out with absolute satisfaction. Then from there we didn’t know what to do. So I thought of visiting Amethyst Coffee Shop as we have not been there… Again a wonder place when it comes to crowd and ambience. I was not that impressed with Food & Drink when compared to 36 Degrees Coffee Shop and also prices were on the higher end. Again I was angry on myself that I didn’t carry my camera to shoot snaps at these wonderful places. Anyways there were no complaints as these places are in Chennai and we can make it anytime again.

Then I had an appointment to meet an entrepreneur friend of mine at 8 PM which was scheduled in Café Coffee Day located inside Mega Mart where we started the day. We dropped two friends at their home and drive to meeting and shared our latest experiences and we packed our bags. But what was interesting things for the day was;

  • We started and ended the day in the same place.
  • We visited three different coffee shops.

Over all I was not regretting for cancelled appointments as the day was more fulfilling and I enjoyed the weekend in a different style.

Nice Picture

Person behind the smoke must really be smart… This is a real nice one… Can anyone find out who is behind the scene???

QuickGun Murugan Hilarious!!!

QuickGunFrontFrom the morning I’ve been eagerly awaiting the clock to tick 10:30 PM to watch the movie. As time passed my body was unable to bear the work load and not sleeping the previous night added to the strain. I crashed to sleep by 6:45 PM and I bunked to GYM. Then Balaji came back to pick me for the movie at 9 o clock and I was so tired that I was unable to wake up from bed. If it had been anything else I’d have cancelled it. But this is a movie which I has high expectation and also I’m fond of comedy movies and I wanted to ROTFL.

Then we went to a hotel to have our dinner and it is here where Balaji got irritated because Bearer’s behavior. What every we ordered were not available and that to we were inform of it only after 5 min. It took too long to get what we ordered. Balaji wanted to walk out. I convinced Balaji as I thought going to another place and having dinner is only going to make things delayed.

Then once we reached Satyam Annex parking it was full and we have experienced it for the first time. Then we had to go for normal parking and cars were on Queue for at least half a Kilometer. Then parking the car took 20 min and when we entered the life was in ground floor and by the time Balaji was about the reach there the lift moved. By this time Balaji decided it was a bad day. Again the excitement to watch Quick Gun Murugan kept me cool…

Then we were late and got settled and right from the beginning it was fun and when I saw Balaji he was really not enjoying the movie. I think he went out of mood. Coming back to movie it is 100% spoof comedy and it has lived to expectation. Rajendra Prasad has done real justice to the role. Every inch of the story is well thought and even songs were spoof and really criticize Tamil movies of 60’s & 70’s.

Over all it is best laughter medicine as from second half Balaji started enjoying the movie and brought him back to normal.

Benefits of eating fruits!!!

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It’s not as easy as you think. It’s important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! *

FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD.

Let’s say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil…..

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining – every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc – actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter.  If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice – drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don’t even drink juice that has been heated up. Don’t eat cooked fruits because you don’t get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE: Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lowers cholesterol, prevents & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher.. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene – the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can u believe this?? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this ‘sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE’: (THIS IS NOT A JOKE!) Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting.. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let’s be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive…
