Adventures of TinTin OOpS Kaviraj

Weekend went to a movie and really enjoyed watching The Adventures of TinTinKaviRaj… Since Kavi’s adventures were big; it overshadowed the movie :)…

  • First Kavi started his Adventures from booking tickets… He booked 4 tickets on four different seats…
  • Second was his wonderful driving… His driving has always been an adventure for people who accompany his… In face I can write a novel when it comes to his driving…
  • Third was when we attended a bachelors party of a friend before the movie… Mr.Kavi vomited what all he consumed… This is rare and the first occasion I saw my icon vomiting…
  • Fifth the fight he pulled with all of us for a particular seat… He pushed every one who was walking to win over his seat… W found no logic as we all had to sit at different corners to watch the movie…
  • Sixth during the interval break I saw Kavi going to restroom… I went to a different corner to buy some ice-cream… I didn’t know from where he jumped… He came took the ice-cream and ran… Te shop keeper was caught with shock… Then I told him he is my friend and I’ll pay for that :)…
  • Seventh was when he drive back… It was such a foolish rash drive… I was not scared but my other pal were really caught with fear :)… It was a drive of flying over the speed breakers, cutting across the cops, teasing the payment walkers…

For a moment I didn’t know why at all we went to the movie as my friend entertained us with his adventures which were much interesting the movie… Hence forth we have decided to gspend time with Kavi rather than spending money on movies or parties…

I thank Kavi for entertaining us the evening….

Cold Calling Experiences by Sivaraman Natarajan

This is what transpired during one of my calls –

Me: Hello, Good Morning!
Receptionist:  Good morning Sir
Me: I am Sivaraman calling from company – Y
Receptionist: Okay…
Me: Can I please talk to Mr. X?
Receptionist:I would need his badge number
Me: I am sorry. What is that?
Receptionist: All our employees have a badge number Sir. You have to give me that
Me: Sorry, I don’t know Mr.X’s badge number. Can you look him up in the extension directory please?
Receptionist: Let me see…(a min later) Sorry Sir, I cannot find him
Me: Can you please find Mr. W then?
Receptionist: Mr. W? This is regarding?
Me: This is regarding a business meeting
Receptionist: What business Sir?
Me: Can I please talk to him directly about it? (ending with a smile)
Receptionist: Hmm…I am putting him through. Please hold
Me: Thank you!
W: Hello, W speaking, who is this?
Me: Good morning Sir! I am Sivaraman calling from Y. I got your reference from ____. Is it a good time to talk to you? Can I have 5 minutes of your time?
W: (a little hesitating) Yes…What is this regarding?
Me: Sir, this is regarding….blah blah..

This is one experience where I got to handle 3 objections and got rewarded ultimately. When making calls, it is important to handle certain objections, especially if we are calling the board number and talking to a receptionist.

Objection: Mr. X does not work here/Mr. X is in a meeting/business trip/on vacation
Counter: Can I talk to Mr. W then?
Objection: He is not available today/He is not at his desk
Counter: Is he on vacation?/Is he in a meeting?/When can I call again?/Can I have his extension number?/Can I have his email id please?

The idea is to get as much information as possible in a single call. It can get really annoying to a receptionist if we assume a rigid/matter-of-fact tone. One has to respect the time of a receptionist.

When we get to the person we want to talk to, we ideally get a maximum of 5 minutes, so, we should get to the objective of the call as quickly as possible.

Homework before calling is paramount.

The success rate of cold calling is not very high. Hence, it pays to be persistent and methodical. Cold calling should always be complemented by direct mailing and follow-ups to be effective.

O O O Itz Not My Day :(((

After having an exciting night on Social Media promotions I crashed to bed by 5 AM and got up by 1 PM only to realize that an interview was scheduled to me by 1 PM… I called the office only to know no one has come… Then the person turned to interview by 3PM… I preferred an telephonic interview and when I started the interview I realized person has applied for a wrong profile… Since it was an urgent requirement I got little upset…

Then tried to do a online fund transfer from my ICICI Bank to CitiBank… There was some problem with ICICI bank’s online system and I couldn’t do the transfer…

Then I went to BSNL Shoppe near to my house to recharge my 3G Data Plan… But the person in-charge said he hasn’t done a recharge for 3G prepaid Data Plans and he said it can’t be done there… He asked me to call the support or visit Greams Road center on Monday…

From there went to ICICI bank to deposit some cash in hand and again it was real ill-luck that bank shutters were getting closed in front of my eyes… By now I realized it is not going to be my day…

From there went to Samsung Service Center to collect my mobile… Previous day I was told it was a software issue and they said they will reinstall the software and will return the handset the next day… But for my surprise I was told there was problem with the motherboard and it had to be replaced…

Then I called a friend to know when and where to assemble as we planned for a Long Drive or a Short Trip until Sunday… Again it was a bad news as one of the core person backed out owing to official commitments…

By now I’m confused and didn’t know what to do next?? Go home or office or call some other friends??

Without any plan or expectation went to Adambakkam office… Had a short meeting with Ramesh & Karthikeyan… By now Karthi, Sundhar & Kavi assembled… We booked tickets to “Adventures of Tin-Tin”… Then it was fun time with Kavi and Karthi wanted to attend his friends Bachelors party and to my surprise the person happened to be my School Junior… After spending some funny moments there we marched to the movie…

Again our Kaviraj has perfectly booked tickets for all four in 4 different rows… We all sat separately and watched the movie… Then Kavi entertained us in the interval with his non-sense behavior… Then it was followed by his crappy driving…

Finally I must thank KAVI for his funny behavior which really brought down my mood and he helped me to end the day with a happy and enjoyable note…

For all those born in 80’s!

Got this post from a friend and it really made sense… Wanted to share it…

We are the last generation that learnt to play in the street, we are the first who’ve played video games, see cartoons in color and went to amusement parks. We were the last to record songs of the radio on cassettes and we are the pioneers of Walkman’s and chat-rooms… We learned how to program VCR before anyone else, play with the Atari, Nintendo and believed that the Internet would be a free world all on a 56kbit modem… Traveled in cars without seat belts or air-bags & lived without cell phones… Rode our bicycles down the road without brakes… We never had phones but still kept in touch… We did not have Play stations, 99 television stations, flat screens, surround sound, mp3s, iPods, computers and broadband…

but never the less we had a GREAT Time…

My Galaxy S2 got screwed – Wanted HELP

For last three days my Android GingerBREAD Samsung Galaxy S2 got screwed for some reason… I keep getting an error PROCESS SYSTEM NOT RESPONDING and it asks to WAIT or FORCE QUIT… Either way the system restarts…

I tried browsing thru all possible support forums and I see a lot of people posting the problem but couldn’t get a solution online…

Then I thought it is time to know the doors of Samsung support… It was a wonderful call centre support and was happy with the courtesy… Asking for my location they gave me the address of their authorised support centre…

I went there with the hopes of fixing the issue… First of all I was startled to see a Samsung authorised support centre Ian dirty complex… Secondly the place was choatic and it was all irated customers shouting at the support staff… What even shocked me was the support staffs were rude in handling the customers…

I thought for a moment if this was a right place for me to handover my expensive phone and I walked back… For last 3 days I’ve been living with this phone which restarts often and I could use a lot of app… Now I’m struck on deciding a solution…

Should I go back to the service centre and give them a chance?
Should I call back Samsung and tell them the situation?
Should I try to solve the issue myself??

I thought it would be better to blog and see if my readers have any solution in hand… Folks pls let me know if you had come across this issue and solved it… I’d be grateful if you can help me solve the issue…

Cherish the present

It was yet another day out with Kavi and after business talks we started pulling each other down as always… For some reason and as a rare occasion I saw Kavi getting nostalgic… He was sharing about his hard job hunt days… He envied his past days where he had no money but he was happy..

That is when I realised how we cherish the past even it was painful… So the point is we envy those painful days once we successfully overcome them… I’ve my own experience of over coming pain and depression but today those are the days I cherish when I look back…

Last week when I was in Madurai all I could do is to rewind back 3 years where I felt lonely, depressed and more dejected in life…

So the point is we always forget to cherish the present instead of fearing the future or envying the past… Remember present good or bad will me the moment of cherish when it becomes past…

Diet Water – a new business idea

Went to Subway to have a sub along with Kavi… When he insisted for a different joint I denied it telling him I’m on diet… By the time when we were billing there was a guy who ordered for a diet coke…

By this time we got a call from the friend who was waiting for us at Cafe Coffee Day which was was located on the parallel street… When we asked for his order he said he wanted a green tea as he was in diet…

After our meeting Kavi was thirsty and he got a bottle of water… He offered me if I wanted to drink? And I denied… He was spontaneous telling it was a diet water…

I was startled… We had a big laugh and then we thought there was a great market if we. Considering the DIET market we though DIET WATER for sure will have great market…

We even thought of a name DIET ACQUA… So how do we differentiate from normal water is we are selling H1O instead of H2O

We know it was a crazy and funny discussion… But who knows in this crazy world with a whole lot of crazy people a DIET WATER can be a reality in future :)…
