Private Bus Drama

Normally I never travel in small time private bus operators. All my previous experience has been bad. So these are the things that happened in the past;

  • In 2001 I boarded a bus called Sangeetha Travels by 10.30 to Chennai. Since I was tired I slept and woke up by 1 o clock only to fine the bus was still in the same spot I boarded. They were still filling the empty seats. Then reached by 10 AM.
  • Second is also with the same operator & same year who dropped us in chitoor claiming they don’t have a permit to enter Tamil Nadu and left us in a normal bus. Again reached Chennai by 10 AM
  • Then 6 months I boarded a bus to Madurai. This time operator name National Travels. I was told bus starts by 10 o clock and again when we crossed Chennai it was 2 o clocks. Until then they were filling the seats. Then they reached Trichy where most of them got down and again they halted for an hour to fill the empty seats. Then reached by 1 PM.

After these entire nightmares I stopped travelling using smalltime players. Yesterday I badly wanted to travel to Bangalore as today is the last day to pay Professional Tax. I must have booked tickets as I know I must travel to Bangalore. But that is me I love vagabond travel.

Again yesterday I was called by Sangitha Travels. The cost of the ticket was Rs.850/- which was double than what I normally pay. Then I was told I need to board 11.30 PM bus. Then couple of people was asked to board 11 o clock bus and when I asked it that was my bus they said mine was 11.30 bus. A Gurka employee of the travels said 11 o clock bus was last and by now I smelled again I’m into some trouble.

Not this is how the drama started;

  • All of a sudden asked for my boarding pass.
  • He returned asked me to take my bag, run and follow him.
  • He returned shouting at his other agents to call and stop the bus.
  • Then he gave the boarding pass to Gurka and asked him to stop the bus and make me board the bus.
  • He took me to some other agent.
  • He shouted at me asking what time to come.
  • It irked me I started giving back telling I was waiting inside his office for more than an hour. In fact this guy saw me sitting inside his office for long, but he pretended as if he doesn’t know me.
  • Then he asked for another 100 bucks claiming he needed that to help me board another bus.
  • By now I started shouting at him in local Chennai lingo and I said I can create a scene.
  • Then he changed the topic telling I owe them Rs.100 bucks. Then I said if he is going to mess around with me he is into trouble. My ease speaking Chennai lingo helped.
  • Then he said he is doing me a favor. He said without my knowledge he has sent someone in my bus and he took his boarding pass to me.
  • He gave me the front seat where ask I was given the last seat in my ticket.
  • I was adamant not to pay these people even a penny.
  • Then I got into my seat and got settled.
  • Then when I peeped out there were old people, young couples with kids who were put into trouble.

I was in no mood in give a helping hand to them and I was watching all the quarrels. Finally they started the bus by 12:15PM and reached Bangalore by 5:15 PM.

SaleSamachar.Com – Best place to strike better deals

Last month we thought or purchasing our own furniture’s and Air-Conditioners for CCS as we are paying heavily on rentals. We thought Diwali would be the right time to do this because of better discounts we might get.

We were looking for some site like deals2buy to compare different discounts offers available with different vendors / retailers. While Googling I came across SaleSamachar.Com. It looks like a brand new site with lots of information on discounts available for this Diwali.

I think it must be Chennai based because all information is pertained to Chennai. I’m happy that India has got such a site after a long time. I’ve got lot of ideas for the site and I’ve shot an email to the webmaster with all my thoughts.

If they respond I might meet them and would be glad to contribute my thoughts to make SaleSamachar.Com a success.

Unplanned travel & Happy results

Until 6 PM yesterday I was not sure what am I going to do. Whether to go to Chennai or Coimbatore or Stay back in Bangalore. It was very drowsy feeling and nothing was happening till 4 PM. I was still on the bed browsing and watching T.V, didn’t take bath, lots of cloths to wash, house was dusty.

By 4 PM I realized that I can’t do anything with the Sales Tax work after 4 o clock. I thought I must do something to make the day productive and I broke my laziness and I went one to wash my cloths and it was 5 PM by then.

Then I sweeped the house, had a perfect shave and had a nice bath and it was 5.45 PM. Then again back watching T.V, browsing and thinking what to do next. Then I thought I can check tickets for Chennai and thought if I don’t get a ticket I can think of next choice.

I logged into KPN travels site and found 4 tickets were available for the last bus which was very expensive (cost of a ticket is Rs.706/-). Last bus was always my choice when it comes to travelling between Bangalore – Chennai. Then there was no second thinking. I booked tickets and found KPN has got a new facility to collect tickets on counter upon providing a PIN unlike before where in we had to carry a printout of e-ticket.

Then I travelled to my cousins house in BTM had dinner with him and he dropped me in Bhommanahalli and I boarded the bus by 11.45 PM. I was eager to know what is special with the bus as it costs so much. On boarding I found it was a big bus with 42 seats. I was surprised to see how come they charge so much for having more capacity. When volume is more cost has to come down that is the theory of economies of scale.

Anyways I didn’t bother as I was able to take a decision because of availability of ticket. Then after boarding the bus I made couple of calls until the bus reached Hosur by 12.20 AM and I slept by then. The bus reached Porur by 5 o clock sharp. I woke up exactly before Porur. Thanks to the driver for playing FM songs and switching on the lights. Normally nothing perturbs me on sleep but this time it was unusual and again I’m not going to complain as the result was good as I got down near my house, had good sleep and comfortable travel.

Overall it was very much unplanned and all ended up comfortably and now I’m in Chennai posting this blog.

The Madras Day from Aug 16 – Aug 23

I’m proud to be a Chennaite as I’m born and brought up in this lovely city. I’ve travelled places in my life but I’ve never admired a place other than Chennai. As a proud Chennaite I’m planning to engage myself to celebrate Chennai week on my own. Bout for people who don’t know about the history of Chennai here is a small synopsis…

The founding day of Madras is considered to be August 22, 1639. It was on that day, in that year, that a sliver of land, where Fort. St. George stands today, was transacted by the East India Company.

The deal was struck by Francis Day, his ‘dubash’ Beri Thimmappa, and their superior, Andrew Cogan, with the local Nayak rulers. It is believed that this deal was made on August 22, 1639.

Out of the fort, grew settlements. Then the villages around it were brought together. And then, the old and new towns linked up. And then we had the city.

Today, Chennai stands tall for a variety of reasons like Education, healthcare, IT, history, tourism, auto industries, movies etc.

Madras Day celebrates the city.

Madras Day was an idea that three people put together – the city’s famed historian, S. Muthiah, journalist Sashi Nair and publisher Vincent D’ Souza. Today, they have been joined by three others – senior journalist and editor Sushila Ravindranath, entrepreneur and writer-historian V. Sriram and journalist and web site entrepreneur, Revathi R.

I’m planning to buy this t-shirt today…

Also I’m design and print my own concepts about Chennai… Can you throw your thoughts or share me couple of punch lines about Chennai?

Another fulfilling day…

Today has been a contending day for many reasons. The day started by preparing a quote for providing Computer education for Andra Pradesh corporation schools. Then there were some official work where in I had to review some contracts, preparing list of things that my new CTO has to take care off and then putting my CTO as the single point contact for all technical help.

Then was engaged with some telephonic conversation with my CFO & Friends. Then I wanted to start my fish breeding which I use to do in my school days and then I located some spots in my house which would be best suited.

Then I got a call from my friend cum customer who said it was diccicult to come and sigh his IT returns and so I had to do the courier work. Thought Bala was hesitant to make me do those works I really enjoyed doing it as I’m not involved in CCS activities and I really enjoy working for CCS as it is a new arena to me. I drove to CCS office to hand over couple of signed IT Saral forms of friend and collected my friend’s Saral form to be signed and returned home as Balaji planned for a drive.

I came back home by 8 o clock and then had to wait for Balaji till 10 o clock to return from a birthday party. Then we handed over the Saral form to the friend and asked him to hand it over to bala tomorrow. Then we thought we can go for a long drive to Mahabalipuran through OMR which we have not explored much.

I was really surprised to see small tea shops and hotels which were kept open till 12 o clock mid night. We reached Perungudi toll by 11.20 PM and had to pay 30 bucks for a two way toll. Then we came across Baskin Robbins ice cream parlor and Pizza Corner. Balaji wanted an Iced Tea which was not available. Then we went to Baskin Robins and ordered for a Mango Tango & Mint Tango (Ice Cream blended with Sprite) and we enjoyed the drink.

DSC01324DSC01325Again started to travel towards mahabs and had to cross another toll where we were charged 30 bucks for a two way toll. I handed over a 50 rupee note and we got two 10 rupee coins as balance. That really excited me because I’ve seen that from one of my friend who had only one and he refused to give it to me. So, today I’m a proud owner of a 10 rupee coin which is rare at the moment. Then Balaji took on coin and retained one coin.

Again we thought this route to be expensive compared to ECR as we pay 45 bucks for two ways to mahabs. Then once when we crossed 200 meters the road was very bad as expected and we had a small change in direction. Instead of Thiruporur we went to ECR from Kelambakkam.

lightningEn route to ECR from Kelambakkam we had this back waters and good lightning. It was a special gift to my eyes. I’ve never enjoyed nature like this before. I was disappointed for not carrying a camera. Then after 10 min of enjoying the lightning we again proceeded to mahabs.

After reaching mahabs Balaji was telling me how nice a place it was two decades back as it is the home town of his mother and that was the place where he spends his vacation.  Again I’ve never been to mahabs at mid night and watching those carvings at night was a different experience.

It took 2 hours to drive to mahabs and while returning we had good topics to discuss and returned home within an hour. Over all I’m closing the day with a happy note… Thank you Balaji for giving such an experience… Letz explore more in coming weeks.

Super Saturday!!!

Last Saturday has been one of the best day as I was travelled to many places and do lot of work in a day. The day started half-way when I was watching a movie and after the movie I returned to office in Madurai. It was 2 AM when I returned to office and thought I can stay in office as I can’t wake up early. I made some blog post that night and then I went home by 4.30 I cleaned my house took shower and left to Mattuthavani Bus Stop and boarded a bus to Trichy.

Cricket in my mobile came handy as I played cricket which helped me to pass time. Then by half way met once of my father’s colleague’s daughter who was also travelling to Trichy with her husband and the remaining time I engaged in a conversation with the couples I reached Trichy. Since I was engaged in playing cricket and conversing with the couple and also the climate was good since I started early I didn’t find any difficulty in travelling.

Then I reached Trichy Bus Stand by 10 o clock and boarded a local bus to Thillai Nagar to my uncle’s house and reached his house by 10.25 AM. Then I had my breakfast and soon we started for my uncle’s marriage. En route we purchased some shirt and pants for the Groom.

Then we left to Groom’s house which is my grandmother’s ancestral home. My uncle showed the house architecture and how they (uncle’s, aunty & mom spent their summer holiday in that home. My grand mother was the last of 8 siblings and you can imagine hoe many first cousins mu mom would have had. They said there would be around 40 kids. It was always to know the cherishing moments of people and my uncle took me almost 30 – 40 years back.

Then I went to Kaveri River which I frequent whenever I goto my granny’s village. Then I took some nap and we started to marriage hall in a place called SwamiMalai which was 65 KM from that village. Since I didn’t sleep my uncle took the responsibility to drive. Six KM from my granny’s village is the old heritage Grand Anaicut Kallanai built by King Karikala Cholan. I’ve visited my granny’s village several times but I’ve never been to this spot which is a big tourist attraction and on seeing the DAM I was really startled to see the architecture and quality of the DAM. This DAM takes has its history way back to Before Christ period.

Then we reached the marriage hall in another 45 min and them I spent some time there and came to hotel and did some browsing. Then I spent some quality time with my cousin which was like a get-2-gether. Then many my uncle introduced me to several elders telling that I could be a nice groom to their daughter or grand daughter. I’ve never been thru such situations and I was not that comfortable in handling such situations.

Then I have to come to Chennai the next day to Buzz 140 unconference and I left to Kumbakonnam which is the next big town near to the marriage hall. Then I boarded a bus to Chennai and started to sleep to end a very hectic and happy day.

My Tattoo Experience

tattooFor long I wanted to tattoo and the dream got realized last week when I went to Garuda Mall. I had a temporary tattoo painted my star sign Pisces in my right hand and after 3 days I tattooed a sea horse at Forum Mall.

It took only 2 – 3 min of time to get it sprayed but there was difference in pricing at Garuda Mall we were charged only Rs.40/- where as in Forum Mall I was charged Rs.80/- almost double for the same.

After I got tattooed I was given a small slip which had Tattoo Care instructions.

  • Do not rub tattoo when wet.
  • Do not apply soap, creams on tattoo.
  • Only pat with towel after bath. Do not scrud it off.
  • May last only for 2 – 3 days for oily skin types.
  • Dab with powder after bath to increase life.
  • To remove tattoo use baby oil.
  • Tattoo is extremely oil sensitive.

Yesterday I went to Bella Ciao restaurant in Kottivakkam Beach, Chennai for dinner. I found a stall for tattooing but the stall was closed. I might go there by evening and get a new tattoo in my hands. For a person who needs to get tattooed can contact Garuda Mall & Forum Mall folks in this number

Alliance Portrait

Last Saturday I’ve been to StudioK to shoot for marriage profile. This was a long pending request and again my laziness prolonged this simple request for more than a year and after cancelling the appointment for 5 – 6 times finally I’ve done it.

I must really give credits to StudioK folks and I’ve never been thru such a professional way for shooting for photos.

Now my parents are happy and let me see if this turns up lucky to find my better half.

Building a Private Pond

For long I wanted to create a Small Artificial Pond in my private land in Chennai or Madurai. I’ve great passion for fish breeding and fishing. Also Chennai lacks a private place where people who have passion for fishing can gather. Also most people in India are not aware of the concept / benefits of Private ponds.

  • A private pond will help the environment.
  • It brings lots of birds to the locality.
  • A community can be created for people who have passion / hobby for fishing.

I’ve collected some information to develop an artificial pond some day in my life. But for those who are interested to know more can go thru this file which gives more insights.
